Sounds like you were very lucky to get back to Bankstown Russell, I saw the RFS backburning between Terry Hills and Forestville on my way home from Bankstown, and it was a hugh plume of smoke. They actually closed the Wakehurst Parkway later in the afternoon because of poor visibility.
While I was talking to the Agusta 139 pilot they changed from Runway 29 to 11, and we saw a C150 approach, float along the runway at 20ft for most of its length, and then climb out. The wind was still variable and it looked like he got a good puff of tailwind on short final. The Nanchang also arrived then and rolled through the full length, the following Navajo had to go around, probably "Not Happy Jan".
