Default Hamilton Island - Cyclone Debbie

I wonder how the Airport fared, given that (apparently) the highest ever wind gust (263kmh) in Queensland was recorded there yesterday morning. No doubt lots of customers wondering (the cynic in me thinks that the Travel Insurance companies will have an "out clause") who will be paying the bill for their extended stay there too.

Never got over 142kts, which was recorded at 1030, and broke at 1630 when the wind was 100kmh less.

I wonder what the anemometers and their supporting poles are wind speed rated to?

Before it hit the coast wind speeds were on the edge of changing the rating to a Cat5.

Flying over HTI and PPP yesterday on our way to TSV, the place looks a mess. There were reports that there was runway damage, but seems to be operating as normal on HTI today.

No damage preventing OPs, the owners zipped up there in their Falcon 2000 to check it out.
