Default QF1338

Last night, a Qantas 787 left Sydney bound for Sydney. Appears to have tracked south towards the Antarctic region before doing a U-turn heading back to Sydney and arriving 10 hours later this morning at 6am.

A very similar flight left Brisbane the night before, with similar timings and tracking.

QF1338 was the call sign.

Curious as to what the flight was for. Is it the SAF fuel testing. Anyone know?

VH-ZNK operated the SYD-SYD Southern Lights flight 2-3/4/22 with VH-ZNJ operating the BNE-BNE flight 1-2/4/22. Both flights used QF1338 as their flight number and travel three quarters of the way to Antarctica until they are in the aurora zone and cruise around the southern lights for up to four hours. There is a flight from MEL later in April and further flights from other cities in August and September, 2022.

There are 2 more of these flights (the last of the season) on Friday 23rd September 2022 ex ADL and Saturday 24th September ex SYD. It may be a bit early, but does anyone know which aircraft are scheduled to operate these flights this time around?

Thanks in advance

For anyone that may be interested, the two final Southern Lights Charter Flights of this season operated this past weekend. Both once again operated as QF1338. On Friday night 23/9/22, VH-ZNK had the honours from Adelaide and on Saturday night 24/9/22, the flight operated by VH-ZNE was from Sydney, which I was lucky enough to be on.
Cheers.

What did you think of the flight? I was tossing whether to do this one or the Antarctica flight. I ended up choosing the Antarctica flight.

The flight was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it and would do it again myself.
How was the Antarctica flight? I would personally love to do that too.

I haven't done the flight yet. It's on 4th December.
