Default A is for alphnumeric - New Regos released

A is for alphnumeric

If you like being at the top of the list, you'll appreciate the latest batch of alphanumeric aircraft registration marks starting with an 'A'.

You can now reserve these marks as we continue to expand availability and choice for the industry.

Examples include VH-A65, VH-A5E, VH-AX9.

We released alphanumeric marks starting with an 8 or an X in September last year when the supply of marks under the existing system almost became exhausted.

This gave us the flexibility to continue to provide industry with the opportunity to reserve specific marks.

Not everything is changing: aircraft registration marks in Australia will continue to use the VH Australian nationality mark and it will still be followed by 3 characters.

They will not contain the numbers ‘0’ or ‘1’ to avoid conflict with similar looking letters.

They also must contain a mix of alphanumeric characters - they cannot contain only numbers.
