Advice For Returned & Serving ADF Members
Advice has been received that "Court Mounted Medals" have been deemed to be weapons because of the length of the mounting pin used to attach the medals to uniform/lapels. As such, these items are to be carried in checked in baggage only and if worn at the security barrier, will not be permitted onboard the aircraft. For info of verterans/ADF members travelling to ANZAC Day commitments.

Security gone too far.
How disgraceful. If the diggers want to proudly display their medals, then they should be able to do so unhindered. My 2 cents. |

Agree 100% Nigel. In fact to be honest I don't believe it.

medals
If our returned servicemen want to wear their medals, I think they should be cut some slack.
I don't think they will be a security threat. |

Mark, I can assure you that the info I posted is true. I made the post to inform people so they don't get caught out. As for complaining, as a serving member,
I know it's useless - rules is rules and all the complaining in the world won't change anything. Most people I know would pack them away in baggage anyway -It's only around ANZAC Day that it might be an issue. |

Many diggers take ANZAC day as a pilgrimage to the city where they enlisted/based, and that is often sydney. having marched now 4 times with the diggers, i think this is disgraceful. their immense pride in their nation is often surpassed their humble nature in regards to themselves, and often the only sign of them showing what they have done it by their medals.
This is a measure gone too far. |

Andy C,
If this is true, and I have no doubt it is, and you have an "official source" for this directive, I suggest you sit on it for a couple of weeks then a day or two before Anzac Day send it to all the media you can, "7.30 Report", "A Current Affair" and "Today Tonight" especially, maybe even the Sunday papers the weekend before. This hopefully will cause maximum coverage of this shameful directive and maybe embarrass the peanuts who came up with it. BT |

Nah! Not interested in feeding media outrage. As I posted previously, I just don't want to see medal wearing people get caught out on ANZAC Day.
I have document copies to validate the truth of the matter, but as I said, I've posted for info only. |
