Default JQ81 DRW Birdstrike.

JQ81 DRWDPS made an emergency stop on the runway
at DRW this evening due to bird strike to the l/h engine.
Taxied back to stand 5A and pax deplaned back to
lounge where we are currently waiting. Unsure of rego
but it is one of the new 320s with the large logo and
new interior.

Just informed that aircraft is going nowhere in a hurry
so an interesting time awaits. No spare in DRW so a
long wait looms. Will be interesting to see what JQ
provide to pax in this situation........

My guess at least they will provide some food vouchers or something like that. They did that in Hobart when a flight attendant went sick and that particular flight got delayed about 4 hours while they waited for another flight attendant to come down from Melbourne.

But then again this is a different situation so they might do a bit more then that if the PAX are lucky

Jetstar handled the situation really rather well. Kept pax
in the departure lounge for about 55 minutes with
everybody thinking we'd be boarding again - it was
fairly obvious when we were de-planed within 3 minutes
of arrving back to the gate that we were going nowhere.

They had free water on the scene within 15 minutes and
then announced a new departure time of 0830 today
(Sunday). By the time they made that announcement
Duty Free were ready to take back Duty Free goods to
be collected again today, immigration were ready to
stamp everybody back in, the bags were on the belt
and the Airport Inn and Airport Resort were ready to
check pax in for the night. I thought it was a quite
exceptional effort from the whole JQ team up here.

This morning it seems that the aircraft off the JQ62
arrival from SIN is going forward as JQ82 to BNE, and
the aircraft off JQ74 from SGN will be operating the
JQ81/82 Bali rotation. This means the DRW-SYD JQ74
is delayed until after 1600 this arvo....

By the way Tim the aircraft involved was not VQB.
This operated the BNE-DRW sector but then went
forward as either JQ73 to SGN or JQ61 to SIN.

JQ81 eventually operated by VH-VQB, this was the
first flight I've ever been on where the pax burst into
applause on take off.....

The damaged aircraft is whichever one operated QF61
MEL-DRW on 6/6.

On top of being generally excellent in handling things in
Darwin last night JQ also provided free meals and soft drink
on the flight today.

I really am absolutely impressed by the way they handled
everything.

Good to hear they've got their act together up there in DRW when it comes to disruptions, seeing as there's a lot of flying in and out of there nowadays. Hopefully we can see this kind of effective disruption handling applied to all our other ports. Jetstar actually has a well-structured delay/disruption policy now to avoid the bad press we've seen in the early days.

If QF61 should have been JQ61 then take your pick .....

As damaged a/c was in large logo livery with new
interior must've been VH-VQA.

On the 6th the following occured...

JQ57/58 CNS-DRW-SIN-DRW-CNS was -JQE
JQ61/62 MEL-DRW-SIN-DRW-MEL was -VQX

-VQB ops JQ73 SYD-DRW-SGN, then JQ74 only as far as DRW, before it ops the delayed JQ81/82 to DPS and back.

-VQA was the birdstrike victim. It departed DRW on ferry to MEL on the 8th as JQ7981.
