Zip Ties are now a security threat???
Had a sms from one of the people I work with to say that his bag of zip ties where confiscated from his carry on baggage when it was x-rayed going through Adelaide domestic security.
Now two weeks before, I flew with him and he had his zip ties in the same bag with his side cutters (which where confiscated). Security saw the bag zip ties when searching for the side cutters. The bag of zip ties also went through Alice Spring security on that return trip. Is this correct or have security gone mad? |

Security went mad some time ago. The discrepancies between what gets through at different airports in this country is amazing and laughable. Most security guys in major cities at least are now just little hitlers who excercise their power in the only way they can...picking on passengers.

It is a lack of consistancy. In this situation if I wanted to make a point I would ask for their supervisor and take it up with them. Cable ties in particualr are clearly no worse than an ordinary belt.

I had a ball of thin rope in my bag which was confiscated one time. When I pointed out that was wearing shoe laces, which may achieve the same result, they didn't seem amused...

I too have had zip ties taken by security, and also only at Adelaide, nowhere else.
