Orenair 738 at Tullamarine
Hey all,
I spotted a Orenair 738 hanging about the John Holland hangar at Melbourne Airport the other night, just wondering what was it doing down there. It was a tad too dark to take note of the rego. Regards, Rob |

There's a post elsewhere on this forum I think (but I can't find it) that talks about this plane - it's ex VB coming off lease and now going to Orenair which is Russian I think.

It's ex VH-VOG, you will see ex VOH there in the same livery sometime soon as well. I think it still carries the rego VH-VOG actually.

Just out of interest. Does going from red to white, or any dark colour to any lighter colour require more coates of paint or other products or would they just strip it right back to bare metal regardless of what the original colour was?

Hi Mark
I don't know much about repainting aircraft but would suggest the airframe may be taken back to bare metal then repainted because of weight and balance issues. Weight - because a second coat of paint would make the aircraft a hundred or so (?) kgs heavier with a probable degradation of performance. Balance - because I believe that the rudder must be painted first then balanced before an aircraft takes its first flight. I don't why but there are plenty of pictures around of Boeings making their first flights with the only part of the airframe painted being the rudder, the rest being bare metal or composite materials. I've just seen a photo Delta's latest B777, N709DN, which made its first flight on 25 February and the above is true - only the rudder has been painted. |

VOG was rubbed down and painted straight over the old VB livery.
