Fighter flyover in Sydney CBD today
Does anyone know anything about the fighter that made a pretty high and fast pass over the Sydney CBD just before midday today? Couldn't find any info about a scheduled flyover elsewhere. It sure woke everyone in my office up

We have members from everywhere here but assume you are talking Sydney?

You assumed correctly it was in Sydney, I often neglect to remember the global nature of this forum these days.
I'm surprised a "Office buildings downed by loud fighter jet" news article hadn't appeared in the hours after it passed given the fact some news outlets would report a child passing wind in seat 5A as a near air disaster. I only just made it home and have been able to look at the Webtrak radar, it was an F18, it appeared at 1115am, headed out to sea before turning back and heading over the city. The aircraft then freezes on the webtrak radar over the CBD at 405m, disappears for several seconds then reappears over the Eastern suburbs at 2783m before hooking back to the North and disappearing off the screen. The speedy 2300m climb would explain the noise, they must have been fanging the engines. |

Michael,
It happens every year on the 1st Wednesday of September, its commemoration to the soldiers who passed on in the 1942 and 1943 Japan invasion of Sydney. Aircraft approaches from the east gardens, and when above Martin Place monument it does vertical full thrust climb to about 3000m. Hope this helps and would have been a sight if I wasn’t stuck in my office in a meeting |
