Spotting in Adelaide
Hi all
Next week, I finally embark on what has been, a shortened visit to South Australia than originally planned. I'm hoping to spend a day by the fence at YPAD and was hoping if anyone, local or otherwise, could provide some pointers on the best locations one could photograph from. I'm particularly keen on getting nicely lit profile shots of aircraft types I don't normally see into YSSY, such as Alliance's Fokker 50, Sharp's Metro, and the Cobham types they operate. Also got a scanner, if there's an updated list of frequencies avaliable. At present, I've allocated Monday 27th September to be the plane spotting day, if any local members happen to be about. Many thanks! |

The following link may give you some ideas.
http://planespottingadelaide.com/?page_id=8 The end of Britton Street also gives good views directly across to the terminal airside, I guess it just depends if you have your own transport. Otherwise the views from inside the terminal are excellent as you are able to stand right alongside the departure gates and lets you look out to the runway through clear windows. I've attached a link to some photos which I have taken from inside the terminal building. http://www.sqtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3454 Although I've never been, the views from the long term car park also may provide some good spotting opportunities. |

Maikha, As Stuart said the terminal is the best bet for photos, and spotting oppurtunities. The long Term car park to which Stuart is referring to is good, but spending the whole day in there may be a security risk. Mondays are a pretty good day for movemments. The Alliance FK50's depart at 0600, they are usually back around 1000, maybe a bit earlier. The only different international you will get which is different to Sydney is SQ A333's which arrives at 0800 and departs at 1200. After say 1200 nothing much really happens. In regards to the cobham stuff, if you have no transportation you can walk to the cobham hangers where most of the stuff is parked. Bae 146 VH-NJG is used on services to Moomba. This usually departs from the terminal at 0800 sometimes does come back at 1200, sometimes does not comeback til late afternoon. Airport Frequencies.. 121.7 Ground 118.2/124.2 Approach and departures 120.5 tower These are the 4 main frequencies. Hope this is helpful |
