Airlines to US
Hey guys,
just wanted some feedback on a few different Airlines some friends are considering flying to the US. Firstly, how is Air New Zealand's 'Sky Couch' in economy seen as? reviews from the internet seem to paint it as pretty good however it is pretty expensive. secondly, whats the thoughts on Virgin Australia Y+ and specifically Virgin Australia Y+ versus paying a bit more for United Business Class. The friends are flying eventually to New York so its going to be a fare the whole way rather then just west coast and get off. Also with Hawaiian starting a330 SYD ops shortly I believe? and relatively good prices how is their J 330 product seen? Seeking some advice from people who have been on these Airlines/classes recently... Cheers guys |

For comfort and space, I'd rate UA's Business over VA's Premium Economy, but not by much. Virgin's service would probably win hands down.

As Andrew said above, UA Business would be roomier yet the service on VA is alot better. I flew VA Y+ 2 weeks ago, the flight was near to empty which added to the comfort but United just dont seem to cut it.
I would recommend VA for a direct flight to the US rather than paying the extra for UA J Class. |

Flew UA Business class in October MEL-SYD-SFO-JFK and return. Upstairs in 12J and !2K. For the price for 2 of less that $15 k it was great value with lie-flat beds, big screens and and NOT having to transit through LA. The best part was coming home from NY where we checked in our luggage virtually at the kerb at JFK and next saw it in Melbourne.
Service was sporadic but the food and wine were fine and the movie selection pretty good. Best thing though was the price. If you are flying economy DO NOT FLY with them as they have overhead screens for the inflight entertainment and the service is rubbish. Refer to Skytrax for more. |
