Jetstar announce flights to Ayers Rock
Jetstar have announced they will commence flights from Sydney to Ayers Rock from June 4. Looks like flights will operate four times a week with A320s. Launch fares are now available, $119 one-way.

Just seen on another forum that Jetstar are replacing Qantas on the SYD-AYQ route. The daily Qantas service will be cut from June 3 with Jetstar taking over the following day. So this marks the end of Qantas flights to Ayers Rock. Qantaslink will still operate CNS-AYQ and AYQ-ASP daily.

JQ could maybe re-start the MEl-AYQ route on the other 3 days per week.

CBR-DRW has also been culled, the Qantas PR piece:
https://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn...fo/201302/0215 Jetstar will fly directly to Ayers Rock for the first time, commencing four flights per week between Sydney and Ayers Rock on its Airbus A320 aircraft from Tuesday 4 June. This will replace the daily flights currently operated by Qantas on the route. The Sydney-Ayers Rock route has been un-profitable for Qantas for a number of years with flights in both directions departing with up to 40 per cent of seats empty. Qantas will continue to operate direct daily flights to Ayers Rock from Alice Springs and Cairns. Passengers wishing to travel between Sydney and Ayers Rock on Qantas services can do so on daily services via Alice Springs. We know from experience that Jetstar’s low fares help drive demand to tourism destinations. Should market conditions change, Qantas will look at the feasibility of resuming services between Sydney and Ayers Rock. Qantas will also cease direct flights between Canberra and Darwin due to a lack of demand from April. Qantas will continue to operate services from Canberra to Darwin via Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane. The Qantas Group will continue to operate more than 250 flights per week to and from the Territory, carrying an annual average of approximately 1.7 million passengers. |

But doesn't everyone want to fly via ASP so they get a 738 and a 717?
Maybe not everyone.... More seriously, Yulara resort has been having its own problems with numbers, which have surely impacted loads. Switching to a lower cost base at the risk of alienating premium passengers is probably the best option. And yes, the accomodation is that expensive - from my experience probably around twice what you'd pay for the same standard is a less remote location. |

Fits very easily into a day. I used to do them a fair bit with another carrier.
