I was monitoring the arrival of AIC312 on 126.1 this morning when the director mentioned that 34L was temporary closed while a couple of safety cars did an inspection. Switch to 120.5 but missed the reason what caused the closure.

Pavement failure
I was listening to ATC at the time of the QF11 departure. Apparently there was a pavement failure just as the A380 rotated which required 34L to be closed for repair. This caused some major issues as QF7 and VA1 had to return to the terminal as they required 34L.
QF64 had to go around as it was about to land behind QF11 and another QF aircraft observed the failure from the taxiway. ATC switched to 25 (due to the high winds) whilst 34L was repaired. This took about 2 hours. QF7 and VA1 departed shortly after. |

Ok, I'm confused.
If they were using 34L and the reported pavement failure happened around where the A380 rotated, that'd put it somewhere near the Rwy intersection or further north, right? Yet the original poster said that flightradar24 showed multiple vehicles at the southern end of the runway. So perhaps it was 16R for departures?

QF64
This is the QF64's flight path. It continued the left hand orbit to the east and landed RWY 25.
Went straight over my place at 3000 feet.
