Is it me or are the incidents of uncontained engine failures on the rise, a worrying trend in the era of increasing ETOPS allowances?

The AV Hearld link has an interesting discussion re the abort request from the tower, which is what it was, not a command. Under aviation law, the PIC has ultimate authority, not the tower, so it's their call.
