... and as a little factoid, VH-VUE came out 220kg heavier than it went in.
That has an ongoing effect on fuel consumption... for every kg heavier it will burn a kg of fuel every 30 hours... not as bad as the penalty from that bloody awful Live2Air dome of course. |

How did that happen? Was it due to the type of paint used? Did it happen to other repainted 738 too?

Michael... I haven't looked at the before/after numbers before, but I assume so. I'm guessing it comes from painting over the old paint job, which is quicker and cheaper (taking an aircraft out of service for a shorter period) than stripping and replacing the paint.

strange to have F50 and ATR ops in BNE. Different crew, spares, engineering requirements etc.

But it competes on par with the the DH8-Q300 for ASK.

but when you have to relocate/retrain crew and engineers, order more spare parts to place them ready at a different base, that adds hundreds of thousands of $ in costs that will take a long time to offset with just 2 airframes.

The 'issues' raised are still valid though.
But frankly Virgin would have done the sums and knows what they are doing. Last edited by Ash W; 5th October 2014 at 04:34 PM. |
