On the first of Grahame's photos of his departure from runway 34R it looks as though the aircraft (767?) is heading south, which it is, but in the second photo the right turn is reducing as the pilot is about to intercept the 075 radial to turn left and track east out to sea towards Marub. The track east out to sea is to allow the plane to climb above arriving traffic approaching runways 34L & R from the south.

As a side issue, the photo showing Botany Bay and the Kurnell peninsula begs the question as to why jet aircraft are not allowed to depart from 16R from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am. I can't see many houses under the flightpath and what few there are have double glazing, insulation and other noise reduction methods installed thanks to yours and my taxes.

To Graham Hutchison,

It was much pleasure to read your trip report and the photos of Jetstar B787-8 aircraft and it is so much appreciated. Thanks for sharing and I will send my private email to you soon.

Regards,

Cliff Cook.

Exactly right James, except for your typo. QF B767 VH-OGO off Runway 34R not 34L.

You can see the slight left turn to correct for MARUB.

Was a great flight.

Jetstar have video clips from the flight along with the media videos as well. Try and find yourself. I managed to get into all three media videos.

From the JQ Facebook page:

Check out the highlights video from our first 787 Dreamliner flight departing from Melbourne to the Gold Coast:

And in the news on Channel 7, 9 and 10:

Have the 787 flights been using aerobridges at MEL?

The inaugural did for OOL at least, as did the first CNS flight the following morning.

They connected the aerobridges to door L2. Overhead someone say its because its too risky to connect it to L1 as there are sensors there.

I was impressed with the Dreamliner's climbout performance on the "First Flight" from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, so I tracked it out of Melbourne this afternoon on FlightRadar24.

From liftoff, it climbed straight to FL410 in just 20 minutes and 145nm from Tullamarine - this was overhead Walbundrie in southwest New South Wales. At the final stages of the climb it was climbing at 1,500 fpm, but overall at 2,050 fpm.
