Agree chris - depending on what they are building, an observation deck would be great. It would also be a money maker - Sydney Airport had that cafe at the top of the deck but it closed years ago. Any similar set up is a money maker.

I recall a note in an old annual report about that area being redeveloped into a marina /cafe area. The Airport "own" the land. Also the area on the other side near 07 being converted to General Aviation .Not forgetting the shopping Center !How long before the old Mound becomes more car storage ? Maybe there will be a good spot on the new Ikea ?

I only found this thread again whilst looking for another one that's totally unrelated, but it's interesting that 2 1/2 years on and there's still no movement on the BOM front, nor the redevelopment of land near the Old Tower/TCU. Put on the 'to do' list for another few years perhaps?

It will happen, BoM do need to set-up on a new site for around a year or more for a comparison of the current and new site. BoM also need funding to set-up a new site, which is something that has been quite hard to do under the budget they have been allocated over the last few years.

Default Perth Observation Area

It would be nice if the old Sydney Tower facility was transformed into a viewing area - plenty of parking and great opportunity for cafe or restaurant - attracting beach goers as well. If you have not seen it, this is what Perth looks like. Something like this would be nice.
