Can anyone confirm it's still here? I think that would be an amazing sight especially the younger people(like me) who've never seen a L-1011(or military varient if any) before.

Tim,
Last time I saw it yesterday it was at the jet base, and I pretended I was lost so I could see it close. I'm a young person, apparently, so that was my motivation to go see it! The engines are brilliant, strongly suggest going out to see it! Nick |

FYI, and for others wanting something different.. This flight takes place approximately 6 times every month. RAF Brize Norton is located near Carterton, Oxfordshire, England. The nearest railway stations are at Swindon and Oxford. There is no public transport between these stations and Brize Norton, however, taxis are available and can be booked in advance; Journey time to Mount Pleasant Airport, 35 miles to the southwest of Stanley is approximately 18 hours including a refuelling stop at Ascension Island. Flight services include four in-flight meals. In-flight video film entertainment is available on certain flights. All flights are non-smoking. (Meals RAF canteen issue KK). Bookings and other details are available from the Travel Co-ordinator, Falkland Islands Government Office, London, Tel: +44 207 222 2542, or www.falklandislandstravel.com, I think. Mostly MOD L1011s but depending on flights to Akotiri/Basra/Kabul, occassionally strike an Air Alantic or other TF charter on the route. |

Ken,
I had a google of the flight today, and wikipedia claims that since mid-2007 the flights have been done by Omni Air DC-10's, but on the tristars have been used sporadically as well. The 'Mount Pleasant RAF' page on wikipedia also says that the Antanov 225 aircraft are used at times for large cargo as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Mou...senger_flights Nick
