Time is UTC so if this was departing LHR, it has just departed (1216 EDST).
If all the 744's with RR engines are sequentially registered from OJA, then OJU must be the 21st (RR)744? Add the three second hand GE powered examples (OEB-D) plus the 6 'ER's (OEE-J) to make up a fleet of 28. Does this sound right? Airfleets are showing 30

I think it's 30 Mike.

OEB to OEJ = 9

OJA to OJU = 21 (corrected from 11)

Hi Guys. Sorry about that. Can't count. OJ series to U equals 21. 3 second hand (OEB-D) thanks Matthew and 6 'ER's makes 30.

My bad. Thanks for the help and clearing that up.

There's anther interesting little twist I've discovered on Airfleets

http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b747-24050.htm

According to Airfleets, G-BNLH, a frequent vsitor to SYD I think, operated for QF for over two years from late 2000 to early 2003 as VH-NLH. ( a 31st -400 in QF's fleet, abiet, temporary)

Can you tell it's a miserable weather day?

VH-NLH (Never Leaves Hangar, Nigel Left Home, etc etc) was a real orphan in the Qantas fleet.

As a -436 spec it had ACE galleys (same as the 767-336). This was not compatible with other Qantas B744s so it meant the aircraft had to be 'isolated' to routes wherever possible. The tech crew rest facility was also different to Qantas machines.

It started on SYD-HKG-SYD then went to BNE-AKL-LAX (and the occasional SYD-AKL-BUE). Because of confusion at LAX the aircraft's tail colours were painted over.

It also did SYD-CNS-SYD for quite a while.
