Setting up Planefinder for First time
  1. Open a browser window and go to http://<IP_Address>:30053 - so if the IP address of your Raspberry Pi according to Resin is 10.0.1.16 then go to http://10.0.1.16:30053
  2. If this is a new device, you will see:
  3. Same drill, just different. Fill out form and click "Generate a new sharecode"
  4. You will see a message: "The sharecode 5xxxxxxxxxxxxxx has now been authenticated"
  5. As per instructions above, insert this into your Resin variables using PF_SHARECODE = <The code above>
  6. You're done. Resin will automatically reboot your device and it will start using this ID.

Connecting to my Devices

Great thing about Resin is that even when you're not at home, you can still connect to the terminal of your devices, reboot them even turn on a flashing LED so that you know which device is which.

However when you are on the same network, the following work (example used 10.0.1.82 - just replace with your device's IP instead.

Flightaware - http://10.0.1.82:8080/dump1090-fa/
Planefinder - http://10.0.1.84:30053/
Flightradar24 - http://10.0.1.82:8754/

How do I update my software?
  1. Open up terminal or command prompt
  2. Refer to section "Getting my code....". Change into same directory you cloned my code from.
  3. When in the directory run the following command. If there is an error, then you're in wrong directory or maybe git related error.
    git pull
  4. If you get message "Already up-to-date" then my code is unchanged, however it does not mean that other software is not changed.
  5. Run the following command to completely rebuild all devices with the latest software:
    git push --force resin master

  6. Wait for the unicorn
  7. Check devices on Resin

How do I update my OS?
  1. Go to Resin.io
  2. Click on application
  3. Click on Download Resinos.
  4. Re-image your SD card using Etcher (see above).
  5. Done! Your Raspberry Pi will start and automatically install and configure applications. No extra work required

There is nothing further required. All variables can remain untouched. Resin will ensure that everything is pristine, unbroken. You could even delete non OS files, re-run the above commands and everything will be back to perfect.

What if everything is broken?

Ensure the following
  • Everything is connected correctly, powered on.
  • All the variables are correct as you know them to be.
  • Check "Device Summary" - this page will print out current statuses, and show obvious errors.
  • If the applications appear broken, then run procedure on "How do I update my software" to re-create the images.
  • If operating system appears broken, re-image from Resin.io using procedure under "How do I update my OS?" - just download, re-image.
  • Anything else broken, post it here.

Adding a new Device?
  1. Image as per "How do I update my OS?"
  2. Configure each new application as per the three "Setting up X for First time"
  3. Put in the required device specific variables - if it's in a new location, change GPS co-ordinates to suit and make that device variable.
  4. Done! Your device will install all software, configure itself and just work!
