From my source at Air India, services to MEL are "expected" to begin in October with B788.

Services to SYD "expected" to begin in Q2 2013.

He clearly stated that this is not confirmed, and is likely to change, but he thinks that services to MEL will be running by the end of the year.

My home town is Birmingham .. This news is very welcome for me .. I've been around a long time and still " I'll believe it when it happens " sort of person . Time will tell , but let's keep our fingers crossed .. If it does materialize then it will probably give Emirates a run for it's money , as they currently operate to Birmingham also ..
