^ Raymond, as you rightly pointed out, the no accident record is indeed related specifically to jets.

Otherwise the attached information on Wiki would have to have been noted

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qantas_fatal_accidents

You'd think any Airline with over 85 years under their belt would have had a few 'mishaps' when aircraft weren't as reliable as they are now.

Raymond
I think that ANZ (TEAL at the time) also lost an Electra (named Akaroa) in about 1968 in a training accident
IIRC no lives were lost

Getting back to the original topic of this thread:

VH-OJH returned to Melbourne from Los Angeles this morning on QF94.
At Melbourne this aircraft was meet by VH-OQA, which is taking over on QF93.

VH-OJH later deperted Melbourne at 10:40am and after climbing to approx 4,000ft, landed 8 mins later at Avalon airport.

Whether this aircraft is there for routine maintenance, or the rumoured temporary storage, we'll soon find out.

I was on QF94 LAX-MEL this morning (VH-OJH). Despite booking the flight especially to take the A380, I still had a great flight. The cabin was in great condition and my seat in a small 2-row section of Y behind premium economy (rows 40-41) was great for some peace and quiet overnight.

But, back to the topic in hand, the APU was inoperable for the flight, with all power (incl cabin lights) having to be turned off during engine start at LAX to get the required power. Could this be a reason for the aircraft going to AVV??

I also overheard the crew saying something about the aircraft getting a cabin refit to extend premium economy a couple of extra rows further back to the next bulkhead (ie: taking over the couple of rows where I was seated). Maybe this the reason for AVV?

Also Air NZ lost a DC-8 in 1968 in a training flight at Mangere all 3 crew were lost. After take off they put one engine into reverse thrust while the other three were on full bore this caused the DC-8 wing to dive into the ground and exploded on impact.

VH-OJH had its first flight this morning since arriving at Avalon on July 15th.
Currently performing circuits around Avalon in preperation for what I believe is its transfer flight back to Sydney as QF6196 a little later this morning.
