And now we have TAA, or was it Trans Australia, or was it Australian, or is it Qantas now.
TAA B727-200 VH-TBJ in October 1980. One of the famous "T" Jets and the "Do You Want To Fly Come Fly With TAA" television commercials where they fitted a camera to the top of the tail looking forward and flew over the Barrier Reef. TAA B727-200 VH-TBO in July 1980 TAA B727-200 VH-TBK in March 1981. One of the early attempts at theme aircraft, this one "Central Australia" with Ayres Rock (Uluru) on the tail. Trans Australia B727-200 VH-TB? in August 1982 and yet another livery. This is how we would sit on the fence and photograph, I think this was my cousin. Australian B727-200 VH-TBN in December 1987 in the next livery. Australian Cargo B727-200 VH-TBS in July 1988. I had this recorded as a 200 series but it looks like the shorter 100 series to me. TAA DC9-31 VH-TJQ in October 1981, one of my early favourties. A family friend worked for TAA back in the early 1970s, and I flew back from Brisbane to Sydney in the cockpit jump seat all the way. Takeoff from Brisbane late in the afternoon, watching the sun set over northern New South Wales and finally a straight in night approach to Runway 16. A great experience as I had just gained my PPL. TAA DC9-31 VH-TJS in October 1981 with a good view of what the International Terminal looked like originally. TAA DC9-31 VH-TJQ TAA F27-100 VH-TFF in July 1980

Trans Australia A300B4 VH-TAD in November 1982, the first wide body aircraft in domestic service. One was leased to Air Nuigini for a while to manage fleet capacity. Australian A300B4 VH-TAC in July1988

I used to love going to Williy when the DC9 were landing there.
And those F27 Dog Whistles...they screamed.

Seeing your cousin on top of the wooden fence with the plastic webbing, certainly brings back memories Grahame.
Many thanks and keep them coming.

It'd be amazing to see all the photos dating back that far! Perhaps you could arrange to have at least some of them scanned

Total agree. Thanks for sharing Grahame. This is my favourite thread ever.
I was thinking the same thing. I've enjoyed all the photos as I wasn't here in Sydney during this time so it's been very enlightening. Thanks |
