Good point Kent, they are in the same situation. To me, though, that would just be an incentive to leverage the 'family' concept & improve flexibility.

The 737-700 is an NG. The 737NG family is the -700, -800 and -900/900ER. I think the plan is to replace some of the -700s with E-190s on the thinner routes, with the -800s taking on the higher load factor routes. Cheers Andrew |

It is quite easy to see which aircraft are owned or leased, a looksee at the civil aviation register will show that. Just do a search for all aircraft operated by Virgin.
When the list comes up any a/c where the holder is not Virgin Australia will be leased. Though like Qantas Virgin have some shelf companies that own the aicraft and lease to Virgin, these are all easy to spot as their address is the same as the Airline, ie Spring Hill QLD. http://casa-query.funnelback.com/sea...craft_register |

I flew in this morning LAX-SYD on VH-VPD. Virgin Australia decals replacing the V Australia titles were added to one side of the aircraft in LAX yesterday. It was dark so I wasn't able to get any photos, buit the aircraft should be on the ground in SYD now.

I read on another website that Virgin will have all their fleet repainted by mid january. That I thought would be a bit optomistic, the rate they are getting done it will be another year at least. Any one got some thoughts?

No chance for the entire fleet to be painted, at least one year.

How long would a 77W repaint take typically? Not sure if VA could afford to have an aircraft go offline for the repaint, unless they are due for heavy checks?

If they were targetting mid-January for all fleet, they'd want to get their skates on and do a little more than a 738 and a E90 which weren't even in the red scheme to begin with (not to mention painting VUZ plain white and putting it back in traffic).
By contrast, didn't the entire Delta mainline fleet, including NWA, only take 2.5 years or something? |
