Default Massive Crosswind at YSSY

WND: 270/30-45, XW MAX 42 KTS

That's amazing, 35kts is the limit for the 767!

Yeah and 25 not available; KE585 requested 25 and a Qlink Dash 8 has a tech problem and diverted to CBR.

All quiet now. More crosswind on Rwy 25 than 34, so they're sticking with the parallels.

SQ's A380 9V-SKB landed at approx 0545 this morning on RW34L with crosswind of 30 knots, (although it had been gusting 40 knots), before following flights started using RW25. Too early for any photos unfortunately.

25 was in use for most of the morning. Even then aircraft were reporting strong wind sheer on short final and there were 3 go arounds (2 QF 767s and KE A330). One of the 767s and the 330 seemed to make the decision to go-around quite late, once the aircraft were over the fenceline. There were also another couple of hairy landings, particularly from the Virgin Atlantic A346 which looked very very unsteady on short final.

The queues later in the morning were a nice sight though (at least from the spotter's POV, I'm sure controllers and the airlines weren't as stoked).

There was also someone from CH9 filming there, reporting about the effect the strong winds were having - might get to see yours truly and several others in the background
