Default Strange noises from A319

Hello folks,
We flew aboard an A319 today belonging to BMI and then another that belonged to BA. On both flights only one engine was started and not until well into the taxi, the second engine was started. Before the second engine was started a noise I can only describe as a barking dog persisted under our feet. This noise went on and on until the second engine was started. Any ideas what that noise was?

Like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=554nq...eature=related

This is the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) which transfers power between hydraulic units using a piston. Most often heard when the cargo doors are opened/closed but can be at any time when transfers are required.

I knew of the noise associated with the hydraulic transfer, but have NEVER heard it on any Jetstar flights?

You should check out the clunks and groans coming out of a Malaysia A330 every time the brakes are applied.

Hey Jack,

It happened everytime I opened/closed either front or rear cargo doors on the Jetstar A320's and often during pushback too although you may hear a long whine noise instead.

When I flew on 2x Bangkok Airways A319's back in September 09, they actually had a note about this noise on the safety card and in the safety video.

As a side note on that clip, am I correct in noticing that the window shades close from the bottom of the window up?
