Default Melbourne weather today

Must be having some interesting weather down Melbourne way. Canberra has had 4 diversions so far (mainly domestics but also an NZ A320), with 2 more aircraft seemingly on the way to CBR now...

We were alerted around 1200 or so that MEL was 'closed'... and a glance at the radar showed why.

It passed and they reopened half an hour or so later, but I'm glad I'm not on shift tonight, looks to be more of the same on the way!

Yup, some pretty intense electrical storms.

UA has only just left MEL for SYD, an hour late. Traffic seems to be flowing again for the time being, but they are predicting more storms today and tomorrow.

2 very nice fronts passed through from about midday onwards. Lots and lots of lightning, very loud thunder and torrential rain. Had the scanner on and most aircraft were holding to the north west of the field, lots of diversions as well.

The runway 16 ILS equipment (which has just been repaired after the EK incident) was thought to have been hit by lightning, with some sort of alarm going off? Aircraft were using the 16 twin locater approach. Not sure if it has been confirmed whether the ILS was actually hit though.
