Default Crew Scheduling

After what seems forever we just got access to a new bidding program that "if it works as stated" will make everbody's life much easier on the line. Many are unfamiliar with this very important aspect of any crew member's life (one of the reasons I have to bid vacation a year in advance) so i thought I'd at least share this as an fyi as to why our lives are somewhat chaotic and for the most part out of our control.

Thanks for that one Tony..yes our illustrious management team have discovered a similar neighbourhood in the Phillipines...hence the ever increasing value of these software tools...these days it takes a 30 minute phone call just to get them to input your file number properly and that your just calling in sick !!! Then comes the part about explaining that you did in fact call in sick so why are they showing a DNF on your roster when you didnt show up for the trip.

Dont ask what happens when your laptop goes on the fritz !!!

Hi there

Never understood airline crew rostering, why bother bidding for work?
Wouldn't it be easier on a rotating roster?

eg. 400 B747-400 captains & 1st officers on a 400 week roster.

Captains start at week 1-400 and work down the roster, while 1st officers start at week 400-1 and work up the roster.

Leave is then built into the roster at regular intervals.

Don't Ryanair do something like this?

Any input from pilots gratefully received.
