Spotting still possible from Barton Park Hill?

Is Barton Park Hill still a good location for spotting, or has it changed over the years? I visited its little car park and found no visibility of the airport at all. Unlike the Beach, it isn't much of a place to simply hang out, either.

I've also heard you have to do your spotting from Barton Park Golf Course, not the car park. Is this right?

Barton Park is now basically closed (the big carpark is the works holding now) due to maintenance works happening down near the Cooks River.
