Default QF crew replacements

Just curious. I know that Qantas have standby crews at Australian ports. A while back I was on QF 7 to Dallas which was delayed several hours so the crew would have been out of hours on arrival. They switched the cabin crew from another flight and called in a standby technical crew.
What does the airline do when this happens at a foreign port? Presumably there are no standby crew members.

I understand that Virgin uses the crew scheduled to fly out the next night to be on standby for today's flight. There is also legal provisions to normally fly from an outport with one crew member down under very strict conditions. Obviously every flight still needs one captain and one first officer.
