It's due to be ILS flight tested from the 13th June, and then opened for business on the 15th June with restrictions (Rwy 07 avbl for arr and dep, Rwy 25 avbl for arrivals and departures with the last avbl exit at Golf-2).

Hi Carl,

You can find more info here http://yssyforum.net/board/showthread.php?t=3118 , found that one by putting "07/25" into the board's search function.

It's not 'closed' as such, but rather has pretty severe operating restrictions in place to enable the RESA (runway end safety area) to be built at the western end of Rwy 25.

As David has said, by using the search function I'm sure you'll find numerous threads on this topic. I also recommend having a squiz on the SACL website to see what it's all about.

Cheers

Default Just for more info and clarification

This is an extract from the latest Jeppesen amendments (EFF 4JUN).

Quote:
From 15 June 2009 a Temporary Runway End Safety Area (RESA) will be provided at the western end of Rwy 07/25. The temporary RESA will be utilized until the construction of the permanent RESA structure is completed. This notification provides advance notice of the operational arrangements applicable from 15 June 2009 until 31 October 2009. More detailed information will be made available by NOTAM.

For Rwy 25 Operations a temporary runway stop end will be provided at a position 318' (97m) east of the existing runway end. The Rwy 25 stop end will be defined by red lights which will be operational at all times when Rwy 25 is in use.

Rwy 25 intersection departures will be available from Taxiways Golf 4 and Delta only. Intersection departures from Twy Bravo and Charlie available by pilot request or operational requirement. Last available exit landing Rwy 25 is Twy Golf 2.

Just watching Beech 300 VH-FIX on Planeplotter, looks like it is performing calibration of the Runway 25 ILS. After the approach on Runway 25 they are turning right on the Runway 16R centreline and tracking up to the harbour then right and out to sea at 3300ft (Squawk 4363) for another approach.
