I have been informed that yes it is still coming but will be in around 1.30pm Thursday afternoon due to an extended stayover in Hawaii.

Maybe some one in the know would confirm this please?

ANTONOV (AN-124) TO DELIVER FA/18 HORNET TO RAAF WILLIAMTOWN

This Thursday September 18, RAAF Base Williamtown will play host to a Ukrainian transport aircraft, the Antonov An-124, as it arrives at approximately 8:30am with some familiar Air Force cargo.

The An-124 will deliver an F/A-18 Hornet which made its journey from RAAF Williamtown to Canada and now - back home.

The purpose of the journey was to complete a vital modification as part of the Centre Barrel Replacement program.

The program is part of Project AIR5376 - Hornet Upgrade, carried out on the RAAF Hornet fleet in order to maintain aircraft to their highest operational capabilities and meet the fleets planned withdrawal date of 2015-2018.

The Antonov will refuel and unload the F/A-18 aircraft before departing RAAF Williamtown around midday.

Media Note:

Media to be in position at the runway observation area (on Medowie Road before Fighter World) at 8:15am in order to capture imagery of the Antonov landing.
Sorry, email came overnight. Did anyone get a glimese?

Default AN 124 Photo

As I was busilly working hard! I managed to convince one fo my Bosses to go to Williamtown and he snapped these for us to see. They were taken around 1.30pm. Don't know what time it landed or will leave but it is a differrent one to last time.

Maybe NickW or Stephen Brown can shed some light on this for us all!

I've read that there will be another An-124 coming back to Williamtown in November to pick up another two Hornets to take to Canada again.

Does anyone know when this might be?

Thanks in advance.

Gerard
