Biman to fly to Sydney in 2012
This was reported today in some travel newspapers: BIMAN Bangladesh Airlines has signalled its intention to launch non-stop flights between Dhaka and Sydney next year as part of a global expansion plan, using 777- 300ER aircraft it is awaiting delivery on from Boeing. I used to enjoy seeing their DC10-30s on appraoch to Heathrow. Cheers Mark |

I know some board members will be tremendously excited by this announcement, although I suspect the DC-10's would have been a more popular choice of aircraft for the hardcore enthusiast especially as they still fly 4 of the type.

I'd be interested in Biman's business case. If IA doesn't fly to Australia, it would be hard to see what market Biman feels it can tap into (on the basis that there is a far larger Indian population in Australia than Bangladeshi, and that India is far wealthier)

I assume by IA you actually mean AI Kent? (i.e. Air India)
If i remember correctly, there was some talk a while back that Jet Airways and/or Kingfisher were considering plans to start ops to Australia (can't remember which routes though). I'll have to have a look and see if I can did up some old posts/threads on that, or if not, a bit of research on google might do the trick. But Kent is right. QF currently only have a direct flights (although via Singapore stopover) to Mumbai ex Brisbane. So it will be interesting to see what Biman can make of the proposal.

Thanks Lloyd.
They recently leased a B744 from Air Atlanta Icelandic, not sure what they plan on using it for but I guess that could turn up once or twice. |

It would be even better if their DC-10 rocked up at some point.
