Michael,I think the first 15 were always going to Jetstar. QF mainline still has options on 787s from 2016 the way I'm reading it.
Cheers Jim

They have 15 -8's on order for Jetstar and have options on 50 -9's. As these are options they could end up anywhere or not arrive at all.
Mick, yes they have been whining about fuel costs, indeed what was the figure this year? Something like 17% higher than last. That doesn't mean they have to run out and buy new aircraft. As I said it would have to be a balance of copping higher fuel costs versus the financing and other sundry costs of new aircraft (especially a new type). Clearly for now Qantas is comfortable with continuing with the 767's which would well and truley have had their purchase costs covered. I mean to say when fuel went up did you throw away your own perfectly good vehicle and to buy more fuel efficent model? |

I'm not disagreeing Ash, but how can they expect to be making money on routes where they're running old 747's, and the competition is running things like 777's and eventually, 787's!

And A380's like the 12 that Qantas have?

Wow, 12 A380's. Errrrrrr, yes, they're new, they're efficient, but they're only a very minor part of the QF fleet.

This is being reported in the US as "Boeing hit by biggest-ever 787 order cancellation".
With QF as one of the key airline partners in the design on the 777 and then failing to buy even one, and then hitting Boeing with their biggest ever cancellation of the 787, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Boeing's management offices to hear their comments on QF.

Domesticly similar story with heaps of new 737's replacing older -300's and -400's. A handful of A330's replacing older 767's. New larger Q400's replacing smaller Dash 8-300's etc. So new more fuel efficient a/c make up a substantial portion of the Qantas fleet, but yeah there are more efficient a/c out there but they come at a substantial capital cost. |

About time the 400s being replaced- they make the 767s look new! |

Correct no more -300's in the fleet as they have been replaced by 737-800's which is what I was saying if you reread in full context. And the -400's are exiting slowly now, but don't think they are quite as bad as the 767's.

At the end of the Qantas International 'transformation' there will be 10 A330-300s, 4 A330-200s, 12 A380s and 9 B747-400s. The A380s will be the exclusive equipment on Qantas Intl's flagship route to LHR and will operate over half of the services from Australia to LAX. I think we could argue the A380 is anything but a minor part of the Qantas fleet...
