You all miss the point of the ad. It is a tribute to us spotters with all the people featured looking up at the QANTAS aircraft flying overhead. Just like we do. So thank you QANTAS for the acknowledgement.

Default qantas commercial

To be blunt its awful. Cheap and ineffective compared to the commercials British Airways did over the last few years. I can imagine some advertising types selling the concept to the QF management team and the board.
The trouble is it doesn't inspire you to do anything...like fly with them.
Even the Virgin commercial with all these smart looking types marching toward an aircraft was ordinary but at least it showed some movement and activity around flying...not some bloke on the roof of a building look into the sky.
And of course Ch 9 must have done a deal to get their team to London because the Qantas commercial appears every 10 minutes. Bring back the Singapore Girl in the streets of Paris/London/New York being kind and friendly with some great music and stunning visual shots....thats why you want to fly with them

Personally, I don't mind the ad, it is slowly growing on me and I applaud them for at least trying to take a different approach.

Greg, I think you will find that QF is an official sponsor of the Australian Olympic team and hence you tend to see a lot of their ads during the coverage. The same goes to Telstra, Coles, Swisse, CBA (who are all sponsors of the team). This is perhaps why you wouldn't see ads for Optus, Woolworhs, Virgin Blue, NAB, ANZ during the coverage.

FWIW, I think it's a pretty poor effort, and this campaign will not get the sort of penetration that Qantas are after. The first time I saw the ad, I thought it was for insurance and just kept flicking through - it took my wife telling me it was a Qantas ad to pay any attention to it, and even then it didn't make me feel anything for the brand.

Default qf commercial

I am working in Sydney for 2 weeks and watching the Olympics on Ch 9 I seem to see it all the time...and yes the other sponsors...but Ch 9 put the QF ad at the start of the commercials and I know they have a deal with the AOC but I also know they have a deal with Ch 9 as the "cast and crew" all flew to London with QF.....but the real issue is...."does it make you want to fly with them"?......I do and very frequently but I feel they have been sold a "pup" by some pny-tailed creative director with this crap ad!!!

Couple of thoughts with the way Qantas is heading:

1) won't be long before it is just a ticketing agent (on International flights) under a QF flight number but a lottery on what airlines you get

2) Qantas wants to be careful as when they shove QF passengers on other airlines like Emirates passengers will soon find out what excellent services they have been missing out on being "loyal" to Qantas

Just some thoughts. No wonder numbers are declining on QF when people fly on other airlines with the QF flight code
