Default Australian registrations

Hi
Just a quick question,
What happens when the last registration is entered - VH-ZZZ
What will the next newest australian plane be registered as?
Thanks
Reece

Registrations are not done sequentially, ZZZ is already taken, and currently there are seven odd pages of available marks

I am sure they will have lots of meetings, and eventually add a number after the VH.

Based on Marks' list there were 834 free at the time that the report was generated.

For April 2018 there were 38 adds and 28 deletes.

Also, CASA checks the register regularly for regos that are no longer active and deletes them from the register.

I expect to keep the three characters that after the VH that a number will be added for example AA0-9, AB0-9, ...BA0-9, BB0-9,... ZZ0-9 OR A0-9A, A0-9B,A0-9C... Z0-9Z OR 0-9AA, 0-9AB, 0-9ZZ

Someone can work out how many extra, a digit will create ?

Ok, i didn't really think about it that way, by adding a number

I think it would be around 17,576 since 26 cubed equals 17,576

I thought I read previously that CASA would add a letter to the front of the current registration so that VH-EBA would become VH-AEBA, similar to how Canada changed its registrations from three to four letters a long while ago.

I think that committees will be formed to debate, this keeping lots of public servants busy for years.

Whether 3 or 4 trailing characters will depend on how easy it will be to charge CASAs computer/reporting systems. It is not as easy as it sounds unless it was built into the system when it was originally designed.

The RAAF (I think) is using a 3 digit trailer.

The calculation above dose not account for the 10 factor (0-9).

= (10 cubed) x (26 cubed)

= 17 576 000

It won't run out in a hurry.

In 1959 when I was one of two clerks in the Aircraft Registrations Section of the Department of Civil Aviation, NSW Regional Office at Waverton, I asked what happens when we run out of registrations. I was told that I would be dead by the time we will run out of registrations. I'm getting a bit worried now.
