Block times look pretty standard between each stop (flight status on qantas.com) - almost like they knew they needed the stops?

From 'The Qantas Source':

Quote:
3rd September 2011 - VH-VZP QF703 Goes Walkabout.
Boeing 737-838 VH-VZP operating QF703 Cairns - Melbourne departed on a normal track from Cairns and was close to Barcaldine when it diverted to Rockhampton. The aircraft was on the ground for almost four hours indicting a technical problem before it set off for Sydney. Ground time in Sydney was only 30 minutes which does not indicate any further problems. It is likely the original crew would have gone out of hours if continuing to Melbourne and so a crew change was undertaken in Sydney.
