Default Ex Cairns Seaplane ID help required

Evening all,

How about Warners debut for Australia in the 20/20 this evening, phwoooar!

Anyway, more importantly, I'm hoping one of the many good folks who read this board can assist in ID'ing this buster Beaver

I photographed it at Mareeba on December 30th and believe it to be VH-IDQ which was operated in the Cairns area for many years.

Any info on the ID and demise of this aircraft would be sincerely appreciated.

VH-IDQ is still on the register Murray, so unless it's been very recent that it's been smashed up (judging by the looks of that, it was a while ago), then I don't think it's IDQ.

Cheers

Mick

See Floody, the CASA register was my first port of call when editing the shot last week and finding IDQ still registered gave me the inspiration to post on this fine board! Obviously great minds think alike!

Come visit some BNE some time soon.

I have been digging into the history of VH-IDQ, I believe that is VH-IDQ C/N-1555. This aircraft was run into a reef and sunk by a junior pilot at Green Island, just off cairns in November 2006 and is now awaiting a rebuild. It has probably been out in the weather since it was sunk, and it is awaiting a rebuild, so that is probably why it looks like it's been broken for a while and why it is still on the register.

It has been quite common for an aircraft to remain on the register several years after a prang.

I have known of several that were cancelled more than 10 years after they became unairworthy...often this is because the owner wants to retain that registration in the hope that maybe he will be able to restore it to airworthiness one day.

Sometimes this does not eventuate and so he de-registers it.

Hey Craig,
You must be getting old mate. I would expect you to climb that container get in and look for a plate. What's up with that?
Scott.
