Default A380 and Melbourne

Hi all,

Just had a look at the briefing pages for YMML and found something strange:

16/34 is 3657/60 and 9/27 is 2286/45. That said, I understood that all A380 ops must us 16/34.

When I read the briefing I found this:

APPROVED TAXIING ROUTE FOR ALL A380 ACFT OPERATIONS
AS FOLLOWS

FOR RWY 16/34 OPERATIONS

TWY ALPHA (FULL LENGTH)
TWY KILO (FULL LENGTH)
TWY JULIET (FULL LENGTH)
TWY GOLF BTN TWY VICTOR AND TWY ALPHA
TWY VICTOR (FULL LENGTH)
TWY UNIFORM BTN TWY VICTOR AND TWY ALPHA
TWY TANGO BTN TWY FOXTROT AND BAY DELTA 9
TWY ECHO BTN RWY 16/34 AND TWY SIERRA
TWY CHARLIE (FULL LENGTH)
TWY BRAVO (FULL LENGTH)

FOR RWY 09/27 OPERATIONS

TWY ECHO BTN TWY MIKE AND TWY PAPA
TWY MIKE (FULL LENGTH)
TWY PAPA BTN RWY 09/27 AND TWY ECHO

2HRS NOTICE TO ATC MUST BE GIVEN PRIOR TO APPROVAL FOR ALL RWY 09/27
OPERATIONS
FROM 10 270647 TO PERM

REF AIP DAP EAST MELBOURNE THE FLW PROC APPLY FOR AIRBUS A380
ILS OPS RWY 16 AND RWY 27
CAT I ILS DA IS AS PER PUBLISHED PROCS
FROM 12 010608 TO PERM

I was under the impression that 9/27 was not suitable because the sides had not been hardened to prevent debris onto the runway?

Anyone help me out here?

I think you may be correct.
I have yet to see it use 09/27 at all, even through its flight training phase!

Don't know if the sides have been sealed, but it is now approved for ops.

Hi All,

If it does land Rwy 27, it must get very close to the Fence as it rolls off onto the Taxiway at the End.
