Default Rydges Hotel to be built at Sydney Airport

From a media release today:
http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/corp...DEB95B3BC9E%7d

Quote:
Sydney Airport passengers will soon benefit from greater choice and greater convenience with a new $68 million, four-star hotel to be built at the airport's revamped International Terminal by the Denwol Group and operated by Rydges Hotels.

Rydges to develop $68 million, four-star hotel outside International terminal
317 rooms, bar, restaurant and gym
Expected completion date 2012

Construction of the hotel will commence shortly outside the International Terminal in Sydney Airport and is expected to substantially complete by late 2012.

The new four-star hotel will include 317 rooms, a bar, restaurant and gym to meet growing demand from passengers for convenient and immediate access to the International Terminal at Sydney Airport.

Appealing to business travellers and tourists alike, the new hotel will add to the new international precinct, unveiled earlier this year, which included new restaurants, bars and conference facilities – recognised as the world’s best airport food offering in May.

Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather said the new hotel would enhance the airport as Australia’s international gateway and improve passenger experience.

"Sydney Airport has a direct role in the promotion of tourism in Sydney, NSW and Australia and the development of a new four-star hotel will enhance Sydney as a premier destination for inbound tourism to Australia.

"We continue to invest in projects that we see as enhancing Sydney Airport as a world class airport experience and to expand our range of services to meet the needs of passengers, family and friends.

"For the airport to strengthen its business performance, it must continue to improve the services and products it provides to passengers. Investment in a new hotel will give further choice in accommodation options close to the airport," Ms Mather said.

"Sydney Airport is Australia’s major international gateway for inbound international tourism and we strive to promote a coordinated strategy in partnership with tourism bodies and the state and federal government to promote inbound tourism," Ms Mather said.

Last year, more than 11,390,000 passengers flew to and from Sydney Airport’s International Terminal, a 23 per cent increase on 9,234,000 passengers in 2005.

The new hotel will be developed by the Denwol Group, a diversified Australian property group involved in the development and management of hospitality, commercial and residential assets. The Denwol Group of companies is owned by Phillip Wolanski. Also investing in the project will be companies associated with David Baffsky and John Landerer.

Rydges Hotels and Resorts is owned and operated by leading Australian entertainment, hospitality and leisure company Amalgamated Holdings Limited (AHL). AHL boasts a dynamic group of hotels located across Australia, New Zealand, Dubai and London.

Rydges’ fresh, customer-focussed culture and range of mid to upscale hotels offer value for money, friendly service, genuine hospitality and exciting food and beverage experiences. AHL’s group of companies includes Rydges Hotels & Resorts together with other leading brands including Event Cinemas, Greater Union and Birch Carroll & Coyle cinemas, Moonlight Cinemas, QT Hotels & Resorts, Thredbo ski resort, Sydney’s majestic State Theatre, Featherdale Wildlife Park and more.

During construction, there will inevitably be temporary disruptions to normal operations at Sydney Airport. Sydney Airport wishes to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
Sounds like an ideal spot for the 2013 spotting weekend shenanigans....

Not wrong, only if they could make a "cheapish" car park fare for hotel guest. Also a nice rooftop viewing area would be nice.

What's being built next to the new multi-storey car park? Maybe it's the hotel?

First it was the Customs Building, then it was the multi-story carpark.. now a hotel - great for the disturbance of air over the threshold of 16R !

Lightbulb Rydges Sydney Airport opening this week!

Looks like all is on schedule for the opening this week.
Not many recent stories in regards to this development.
I'm booked in to stay in late June but am keen to hear what it's
like beforehand. Anyone here have any additional info or stays booked?
What I have noticed is the prices at the nearby hotels have started to come down a lot on particular dates. Gotta love competition!
Looking forward to hearing from others.
