It's only a matter of time until 787's will be as prevalent in Aus as the 330's are now... except for QF. All the money making airlines will have them (coupled with their 777's)

Aviation Week ...
Quote:
Earlier this week Bloomberg reported that Boeing is flogging 11 early build 787s with analysts suggesting the overweight old planes could be sold to bargain hunters in Asia, like the five early builds that Lion Air's CEO called 'teenagers'.

Interesting article on composite repair by Aviation Week

787 Fire Repair Boosts Composites Confidence

Quote:
On the morning of July 12, 2013, the quiet atmosphere of Boeing's 787 Operations Control Center (OCC) in Everett, Wash., was broken by a phone call from British Airways at London Heathrow Airport. The caller asked if Boeing knew there was smoke coming from a 787 parked at the airport.

It goes on.

Some day we'll look back at this from a perspective of an incredible program that has helped Airlines' profitability all over the world, much like we do with another game changing air frame, the 747.

This also brings into question the global nature of aircraft production today. It would seem strange to me that a process relating to wing manufacture by sub-contractor Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, could be changed on a currently operational certified aircraft. Surely process changes of this nature would have the tighest of controll around the integrity and consistency of the build.
