Came across this video on YouTube
29/08/2015 at PAE VH-VKL performing a missed approach in heavy windstorm. Wind at 35kt, gusting to 50kt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieX2Yr7flek |

Thanks Brian - Interesting that with the landing gears down, the main gear doors were down for the whole of the first approach but closed (as they usually should be?) for the second. Can they be controlled separately from the lowering and raising of the gear?
Also you can see an interesting looking probe (RAT?) under the fuselage near the back of the right wing root. Anyone know what that's for? Curious. :-) Last edited by Terence W; 3rd September 2015 at 08:30 PM. |

Answering one of my own questions after I googled it - yes it looks like that is the Ram Air Turbine deployed and that's what's making the turboprop sound as the plane passes the camera.
According to the web page below it's common for the RAT to be deployed for testing during initial flight testing. http://airpigz.com/blog/2014/2/11/vi...s-of-them.html |

That is a very small RAT! (only electric I guess, not hydraulic like others)
