Default Scoot and Tiger(TR)

Quote:
Scoot and Tiger sign up for integration, just like Jetstar
BEN SANDILANDS | OCT 01, 2012 8:09PM

In a move that could be signalling more significant developments in Australia, Scoot and Tiger Airways have signed an MoU to integrate the marketing of their networks to provide for single fare itineraries.

This follows the eureka moment last week when Tiger quit the Low Cost Terminal at Singapore Airport and moved into Terminal 2 in the main complex.

This is the statement, which sets out a timetable for full integration which will eliminate the need to go through customs and immigration into Singapore, for a few tens of metres, and then ‘leave’ Singapore in order to transfer any checked luggage between the carriers, something Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Qantas and associated code share partners mastered a long time ago.

Singapore-based low cost airlines, Tiger Airways Singapore and Scoot, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding toward deep and wide-ranging cooperation.

The initial phase of this partnership will see each carrier marketing joint itineraries between Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur, destinations served by Tiger; and Sydney and Gold Coast, served by Scoot. Customers may purchase a single itinerary for travel from Australia, via Singapore, to Tiger’s destinations.

“This is an exciting development,” said CEO of Scoot, Campbell Wilson, “Both carriers operate highly complementary networks, with Scoot focusing on medium-long haul routes of five or more hours, and Tiger focusing on shorter-haul journeys. Both airlines operate side-by-side at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2, and share a common philosophy of offering fuss-free service at unbeatable value.”

“With Tiger’s move to our new den at Changi Airport Terminal 2, it’s the perfect time to leverage the strength of our networks to our customers’ benefits,” said Tiger Airways Group CEO Koay Peng Yen, “Tiger Singapore operates up to 90 flights daily. The joint itineraries and new services that we will be rolling out will greatly expand the travel options for both Tiger and Scoot customers.”

In this initial trial, customers can purchase flight itineraries originating from Australia to popular South East Asia destinations. They will be issued a single ticket that contains all flight details. Passengers will be entitled to 15kg check-in baggage allowance on the interline itinerary.

On arrival in Singapore, customers will have to pass through immigration and collect their bags before checking into the second leg of their flight.

In the later phase, customers will be able to purchase flight itineraries originating from South East Asia. The airlines will also enhance this service with a direct connection process. Customers will be able to proceed with their onward journey without passing through immigration and without having to retrieve their checked baggage.

As the cooperation deepens in future, there could be a need for applications for anti-trust immunity, and this will be sought from the relevant regulatory authorities at the appropriate time as required.

The joint itineraries originating from Australia are available for sale from 2 October 2012 for travel from 15 October 2012 onwards. Itineraries originating from Asia will be available for sale and travel from 2 November 2012 onwards.

Scoot is the wide-body low cost carrier that is 100% owned by Singapore Airlines and began services in June this year on the Sydney-Singapore route, opening an ambitious program to expand further into Asia from its Singapore hub with refurbished Boeing 777-200ERs.

Tiger is the eight year old single aisle A320 carrier set up by Singapore Airlines to take on the Qantas owned Jetstar franchise, in which Singapore Airlines now holds a reduced 32.7% equity, with Temasek Holdings, the national superannuation investment corporation of the Government of Singapore, owning direct equity in both Tiger and Singapore Airlines.

The Scoot-Tiger itinerary integration will cause speculation that there may be a further closer association with Virgin Australia through its Asia-centric alliance with Singapore Airines. As it just did.
Great news for SYD/OOL folks... Hopefully MEL soon

Hi folks,

Dragging up an old thread, but I've noticed Perth has appeared on the Australian ports list for Scoot. Dummy bookings don't show any flights loaded yet. I'm wondering if Perth will be the next Australian destination for Scoot or whether it's on the website purely as part of the marketing agreement with Tiger?

I wonder what this means now that Virgin has acquired a 60% stake in TR? Also if Scoot flights might eventually come under the Velocity Rewards FF program.

VA have not bought into TR, they bought into TT. As far as scoot and TT are concerned there are some logistical issues at present.
