Default Question about flights to Aust at Christmas

I only get home every second Christmas nowadays and would like to know if anyone could tell me if ticket prices went on sale from the US to Australia last Christmas with 4 carriers on the route? Tickets just became available in the last few weeks and they're far from affordable at the moment (buying 4 of them doesn't help!).

Back in 08 I got four return tickets for about 7K US and there were only two carriers at the time. Just trying to decide if I should wait and monitor for a few months or if anyone has any input. Rough dates of travel would be around Dec 11th --Jan 8th or so give or take a few days each way.

Thanks for any replies!

Ben

V Australia for those dates gets you 4 adults return LAX to SYD for $5711. Not a bad price!!

Thanks Greg. I'd love to try V Australia this time, however the price isn't that competitive when you add in the feed from the midwest. Right now Qantas is the cheapest for me which is surprising!

Why is it surprising that Qantas is the cheapest? On any given day they can be as cheap as anyone else?

But on most given days they're a lot dearer.

Certainly don't agree with that Greg. Qantas's prices are as competative as everyone else every day.

Hi Ash,

I'm basing it off making the trip over 20 times and always booking the cheapest tickets I could find. Of those 20 trips over the years, I've flown United 18 times, Air NZ and Qantas once each.

Does anyone remember if United ran the additional flights in Dec/Jan from LAX-Melb last year? I know they did two years ago but I didn't make the trip last year so wasn't sure if they added the extra flights? Anyone know if they will be adding them again this year by chance?

Thanks

Ben

There are certainly extra LAX-SYD flights.
