Post Safety Study on Experimental Amateur-Built Aircraft

Members may be interested in this NTSB study which found a disproportionate percentage of aircraft accidents and fatalities were attributable to first flights of experimental amateur-built aircraft.

To me the results are not surprising, since the segment studied is the highest risk segment, but I wonder what the Australian position would be?

The complete study will be available on ntsb.gov in several weeks.

What is the legal requirment for experimental - home built aircraft to be operated in OZ, ie is there a certification and inspection process before a certificate of Airworthiness is granted? If not bring it on.
