Gday Lachlan,

The mound is still very much open, the fencing that has been mentioned in other threads is merely there to prevent any further damage to the land (you'll see what we mean when you get there!).

Assuming they are using the main North/South runways (either direction is fine), the Mound is the place to be during the morning, and the Beach in the afternoon/evening. If they are using Rwys 16L/R then another option for the afternoon is the observation deck - you'll be able to get some great shots of aircraft on short final with the city in the background!

Do you know how to get to all these places? If not, we can give you some directions.

Hi Lachlan,
Here are 2 photos to give you an idea of what you can get at the beach:
From the carpark(with a 250mm lense):

From the fence(up close):

Hope this helps.

I generally prefer the carpark when 16R is in use, and the fenceline for 34L. Having said that, you'll have a great time regardless of runways at the carpark.

This is the sort of shot you get of 16R rotations from the carpark - JetPhotos.net

I might be out there on tomorrow or Monday in the afternoons, look out for an old white hatchback!
