Jetstar Launch CNS-OOL 3pw
Just found this on the Jetstar website. Operates 3pw. Is this an extra aircraft to be based in CNS? The schedules do not shed much light at this stage. Looks to be operated by 320.
CNS-OOL JQ967 0620 0830 Tu Fr Sa OOL-CNS JQ966 1030 1305 Tu Fr Sa Flights appear to start 3 Feb. Launch fares from $59. Could not find an actual press release either. |

Can't answer where the A320 for this route will be based, but all staff were emailed the media release about the announcement on October 16th; which is here in full (with the relevant stuff and a lot of babble as usual for a media release) ...

Hopefully what will happen with this new aircraft is that on the other days of the week (Mon,Wed,Thu,Sun), the aircraft does CNS-ADL 6:20-10:00, then ADL-CNS 10:40-13:05 (to line up with the CNS-OOL-CNS service). Then the aircraft that currently operates the ADL-CNS-ADL flight can do ADL-BNE-ADL instead, freeing up the aircraft that currently does the BNE-ADL-BNE run which can re-introduce BNE-HBA-BNE in the morning (rather than the midnight special if it is on time ) on Tues, Thu and Sat!

I read in the Cairns Post last week that this new CNS-OOL-CNS service is to connect with the Tokyo-Gold Coast flights as an extra way of bringing overseas tourists to Cairns due to the slashing of International services by Qantas in December to & from CNS.
The article did also say that it would now mean two A320's will overnight in CNS and because of this, an extra 30 people will be employed in CNS for this. |

Maybe there is different aircraft utilisation going on here than meets the eye, but just though I'd offer you that perspective from where the crew originate. |

It's crazy that JQ think they can't make money on HBA-BNE, especially over the peak summer months. No wonder DJ are starting a daily LST-BNE as well as double daily HBA-BNE on Saturdays! Someone's making money! |
