Default A380 pod strike at YSSY

Am hearing reports of an A380 pod strike at YSSY just now...stay tuned

UPDATE: Stand down - looks like it was just a bit of dust kicked up by the cross winds on takeoff.

As you were...

Engine pod hitting the runway - more common during high cross-winds.

I have heard 34L/16R is closed after a section was "ripped up", but all A380s that have departed in the past couple of hours appear to be pressing on to their destinations. Flightradar24 shows 3-4 vehicles down the southern end of the runway.

RWY25 is currently in use.

Some departures have been late as a result - QF7 to Dallas, the two UA flights, VA to LAX. Did they depart from 34L or 25?

I saw on flightradar24 a VA777 to LAX using 34L and in the ATIS the expect delays has disappeared. I assume 34L is open again?

Information Hotel

Back to normal, although still some holding to the north and south west, and some interesting track lengthening for the oceanic arrivals.
