Default New York panicked by presidential planes

was the panic called for when watching this video.. or was the govt plain stupid in light of 11/9..

that would scare any one having a 747 being escorted over the city by fighter jets...

Quote:
The White House has apologised after one of Barack Obama's presidential planes flew alarmingly low over New York city, sending residents into a panic and triggering fears of a new 9/11.

The jumbo, escorted by low-flying fighter jets, roared over southern Manhattan and the Hudson River for about 30 minutes, prompting panicked New Yorkers to evacuate office buildings.

IIRC there was a similar reaction (though with much less panic) when the RAAF flew a 707 tanker over Sydney with a fighter escort for another photo op. I think for those that lived through that sort of attack already, the panic and fear is definitely understandable. All it takes is an announcement in the evening news and major newspapers - its not that difficult and I think would've been prudent considering past events.

Someone erred on the side of stupidity I reckon.

If the media reports are correct?

I have no reason to doubt em' at this time.

Kind regards,

Geoff
