Default One dead in helicopter crash at Cooloongatta Airport

From News.com.au:

Quote:
ONE man is dead and another two have been injured in a helicopter crash at Cooloongatta Airport on the Gold Coast this morning.

The Courier-Mail reports the helicopter is believed to have crashed into heavy scrub at the end of the runway about 10.15am.

Emergency crews are currently at the scene.

A spokeswoman from the RACQ CareFlight Rescue team said it was believed that two passengers were on board the R22 Helicopter.

I'm guessing it's an R44, not an R22, as there's no way you'd get 3 people on an R22!

Perhaps it was an R22 and maybe that's why it crashed...?

Reports are now that it's only 1 person on board the helicopter, with no other mention of anyone else being injured.

It was an R22 with a student on his first solo according to Qld newspapers.

I heard a report on a Perth radio station earlier in the week that the pilot was a 71 year old man.

So if this report is correct and the report about the pilot being on his first solo is also correct, what a sad and tragic end.
